Now us here at mmabetting.net cannot guarantee you become a successful sportsbettor, we will definately try to give you some good advice.
Step 1: Choose a sportsbook
You can find a listing of known sportsbook where you can bet on mma here. Some sportsbooks do not allow betters from selected countries or states, so please read the terms before signing up. All the listed sportsbooks here have been approved by the sportsbetting community and have good reviews. No shady sportsbooks here. Choose a sportsbook where you feel comfortable with the navigation, has the appearance that you enjoy viewing, and where you can set your personalized parameters. Certain sportsbooks have specific bonuses or comps that fit individual comforts, so choose one that is good for you. Most sportsbooks also have an attached casino or poker room, where you can change the pace a little bit. Also you may want to choose the sportsbook with the best lines, as they can all be different.
Step 2: What is a line?
There are usually 3 types of lines used for sportsbetting:
Fractional odds
For example odds of Rashad Evans beating Shogun Rua are 4/1 (“five to one”). This would imply that a bettor making a bet of $100 would profit $400 should they win. The total payout would be $500 ($400 profit + $100 original stake). If it were the opposite at 1/4 (“one to four”) then the bettor would profit $25 on a $100 stake. Odds of 1/1 are even money.
Decimal odds
With decimal odds, the figure that is listed is the winning amount that would be paid out to the bettor. For example the 4/1 fractional odds discussed above would be listed as 5, while the 1/4 odds would be listed as 1.25. Even money would be 2. Decimal odds are usually used when performing parlay bets.
Moneyline odds
Moneyline odds are the most popular for MMA betting. There are two possibilities numbers, the figure quote can be either positive or negative, and each individual fighter will have one of these figures associated with them. If the number is positive, that is how much money you will win (profit) off a $100 wager. In the above example, 4/1 would be listed as +400. If the number is negative, that is how much money must be wagered in order to win (profit) $100. A fractional odd of 1/4 would be listed as -400.
Step 3: Choose the Winner!
Now that you know where to bet, and how to bet, who do you bet on? Nobody is a fortune teller, but here are some helpfull tips that can help you pick the wisest choice:
- Last minute replacements are generally disadvantaged. Weight cutting, cardio, and just not the same intensity of training as someone who knows when they will be fighting.
- Don’t get caught up on X beat Y who beat Z. Forrest beat Shogun, Rashad beat Forrest, so Shogun would get demolished by Machida. No!!!! This is simply not true as each individual fighter matches up differently with each opponent. There might also be nagging injuries that occurred in the previous fights.
- There’s no such thing as a hot fighter. If a fighter comes in with a 5 match winning streak, who cares. Each fight is a completely separate event.
- A win is a win. If a fighter is boring and likes to win via judges decision, who cares. Their win adds $ into your pockets. Feel proud to bet on a boring, yet successful fighter.
- Beat the line! Or in other words try to make your bets during the peaks. Lines start at a level and can gradually move to a final level. So try to make your bet right away on a fighter if you see his line moving in a direction which decreases their value. Ex) GSP starting at -100 vs Thiago Alves. If you see it hit -105, then -110 right away, jump on it, do not let it get any lower! If you wanted to bet on Alves, be patient, this line will continue to sink in your favour. This won’t always work, but happens enough to take note of it.
Good luck and have fun with your mma betting!
