Wow what a year for the UFC in 2011, and looks like they will end it off with a bang in 2011, on a Friday Night!

Also a reminder to all Americans, Bodog will no longer accept US Betters, current accounts will be transferred to an account on Bovada.  All new players can sign up for an account directly on Bovada.

Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem will battle it out for the #1 contendor status.  Has Brock fully recovered from his ailments and fit to battle it out against the best striker he has ever faced?  Probably not.  Overeem has too many weapons, way too much experience for Brock to handle.  If Brock can take him down it may be a different story, but his striking defence has never been the greatest, and the aggressive Alistair should be able to land some bombs to put Lesnar away.

Donald Cerrone is on quite a hot streak, a Nate Diaz will just be a loud obstacle on his way back to the top.  Nobody has fought as much as the cowboy in 2011, and not too many have been as dominating.  Though Nate will keep him distanced off with jabs, the leg kicks that Cerrone will throw throughout the fight will take its toll, and Diaz will be eating some ground and pounds until he taps.

Jon Fitch is probably the best fighter who earns the least respect in mixed martial arts.  That says everything about boring fighters.  His last 9 fights have gone to decision, and not exciting fights either.  Unfortunately with Hendricks being a top notch wrestler as well, look for Fitch to bore out a win here as well.

Alexander Gustafsson, the guy who retired Matt Hamill faces the old but tough Vladimir Matyushenko.  This should be a very exciting fight, but bet on a quick fight as Gustafsson should be able to catch the sloppy Vladimir with some kind of hold.

When Nam Phan faces Jim Hettes he will finally face somebody who will not just trade punches with him.  This will be an intriguing fight as the undefeated Judo Jim has won all his fights via submission.  In this striker versus grappler match an upset could happen here, as Nam was never to great against the grapplers.

MMA Betting sites for US Bettors

Due to recent changes involving the U.S. Department of Justice and their battle vs online poker sites with American players, many sportsbooks have taken the safer route and pulled from the U.S. as well.  Recently popular mma sportsbooks such as Sportsbook.com, BetUS, and Sports Interaction have either stopped taking action from Americans or have blocked New registrants from the U.S. from registering.  It is unfortunate as these sportsbooks were quality bookies to bet with.

There are still a few online options for Americans to bet with, these online sports books still welcome American action.

  1. Bodog
  2. 5Dimes
  3. BetOnline

For non-American mixed martial arts and other sports bettors, everything is still good and status quo.  Good luck with your UFC 130 picks, the next upcoming fight night!

UFC 127 Picks

UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch

Date: Feb 27, 2011

Location: Sydney, Australia (event airs Feb. 26 in North America)
Venue: Acer Arena
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

MAIN CARD

  • Jon Fitch  vs. B.J. Penn
  • Michael Bisping  vs. Jorge Rivera
  • Dennis Siver  vs. George Sotiropoulos
  • Chris Lytle vs. Brian Ebersole
  • Chris Camozzi  vs. Kyle Noke

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Spencer Fisher vs. Ross Pearson
  • Alexander Gustafsson vs. James Te Huna
  • Riki Fukuda vs. Nick Ring
  • Mark Hunt vs. Chris Tuchscherer
  • Maciej Jewtuszko vs. Curt Warburton
  • Tom Blackledge vs. Anthony Perosh
  • Jason Reinhardt vs. Tiequan Zhang

UFC returns to Australia for UFC127 which a nice night (day for Australians) of fighting.  Also starting with this event, MMA Betting.net will be providing the best lines for you to bet on each of the fights at our partnered online betting sites.

Has BJ Penn returned for good?  After his lethargic title performances, BJ comes back and absolute destroys an aging Matt Hughes.  Jon Fitch is the favourite in this fight and deservingly so, he fights a consistently good fight each time out.  I would go with the safer fighter here as you still don’t know which BJ shows up and Fitch is a good enough fighter to beat a good BJ.

Bet on Jon Fitch over BJ Penn at Sportsbook.com -200 or Bet on BJ Penn over Jon Fitch at 5Dimes +170

Not too many thought that Jorge Rivera would ever participate in a co main event, but he’s been on an absolute tear lately and definitely deserves a showcased fight against Michael Bisping.  These two are pretty evenly matched in terms of fight skills, but according to oddsmakers they are polar opposites.  The lines on Jorge Rivera are way too good to pass up and he is very capable of shutting Bisping up.  I would strongly consider making a play on Rivera here.

Bet on Jorge Rivera over Michael Bisping at Sportsbook.com +300 or Bet on Michael Bisping over Jorge Rivera at Bodog -340

Dennis Siver is one individual who I would never want to fight, he is built like a tank and can probably kick over a tree.  George Sotiropoulos is just plain awesome and is my choice to be the title holder before the end of the year.  Oddsmakers feel the same way as he is a heavy favourite.  Gamblers may be enticed to make a play on Siver as he is good enough to win, but my pick is on George for whom I do not believe will lose a fight in 2011 (he has not lost a fight since 2006).

Bet on George Sotiropoulos over Dennis Siver at 5Dimes -330 or Bet on Dennis Siver over George Sotiropoulos at Bodog +315

Kyle Noke and Chris Camozzi never ended up meeting during the Ultimate Fighter Team Ortiz vs Team Liddell though both were favourites to win the show.  Noke is a slight favorite here with also the home town crowd to cheer him on.  Noke appears to be the safer bet in this fight.

Bet on Kyle Noke over Chris Camozzi at BetUS -190 or Bet on Chris Camozzi over Kyle Noke at Sportsbook.com +175

As of posting there are no lines for Chris Lytle vs Brian Ebersole as Brian was a late replacement for Carlos Condit, which would have been a great standup slugfest and most likely fight of the night.  It would be difficult to see how Eversole can beat Lytle though with the way “Lights Out” has been fighting as of late.  This will be Brian Ebersole’s UFC debut so I don’t know too much about him.

UFC 126 Picks

UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort

Date: Feb 05, 2011

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Venue: Mandalay Bay Events Center
Broadcast: Pay-per-view and Spike TV

UFC 126 Odds from Bodog

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)

  • Champ Anderson Silva -265 vs. Vitor Belfort (for middleweight title) +205
  • Forrest Griffin +140 vs. Rich Franklin -170
  • Jake Ellenberger -325 vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha +250
  • Ryan Bader +250 vs. Jon Jones -325
  • Antonio Banuelos +300 vs. Miguel Torres -500

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

  • Paul Kelly +260 vs. Donald Cerrone -340
  • Chad Mendes -340 vs. Michihiro Omigawa +260

PRELIMINARY CARD (Untelevised)

  • Gabe Ruediger vs. Paul Taylor
  • Demetrious Johnson vs. Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto
  • Kyle Kingsbury vs. Ricardo Romero
  • Mike Pierce vs. Kenny Robertson

The big superbowl fight is here and what a card it is.  So many fan favourites, and UFC debuts of several WEC stars, and the debut of Kid Yamamoto in the UFC.

Anderson Silva returns to the Octagon after a near loss to the steroid injected Sonnen.  This time he fights a real fighter in the form of Vitor Belfort.  Neither of these fighters have lost in years and one is hungry the other not so much.  I can’t remember the last time Silva fought an inspired fight, he is that bored.  It will take something like a knockout from Belfort to wake him up and care about the bout or for a super fight vs GSP.  You can sleep on Sonnen, sleep on Maia, but he can’t sleep on Belfort.  Look for Belfort to finally knock the Spider out.

Forrest Griffin vs Rich Franklin will be matching two fan favourites against each other.  I have always thought that Forrest was slightly overrated, not really a great fighter, but simply a guy with a big heart.  Franklin has the skill and look for him to add another loss onto Griffin’s belt.

Jake Ellenberger vs Carlos Eduardo Rocha is a simple striker vs grappler fight.  In this fight Rocha if he sticks to his game plan will take this fight to the ground and not trade fists with Ellenberger.  For some reason he is also a huge underdog which does not make sense.  Quickly grab Carlos before the line drops, this is an easy underdog pick.

Jon Bones Jones is the fighter that everybody wants to watch and in line to become the next big superstar in the UFC.  Ryan “Master” Bader is doing quite fine himself, and its too bad that these two will meet, well too bad for Bader.  Does anybody expect Bader to win here?  Honestly you can have champ Mauricio Rua fight against Bones and he would be an underdog as well.  Jon Jones by TKO and hopefully in spectacular fashion.

Miguel Angel Torres fighting in the UFC, sounds good.  He’s had a tough year and a half but he is still one of the most exciting fighters in mma.  Antonio Banuelos is a good fighter himself, but not even close to the calibre that Torres is.  Miguel should win this fight rather easily.

There is also a big upset potential in the underdog.  Michihiro Omigawa is easily one of the top fighters of the weight class but for some reason he is a huge underdog at +250 to Chad Mendes.  If you like underdogs, this is a very good pick.
