Dream’s special new years event returns with the 2010 sendoff edition and once again it is a full bag of fights with everybody who is anybody in Dream fighting on the card.  Some interesting matchups include the possible dream debut of Todd Duffee vs Alistair Overeem, with the former once thought of as the next big thing in heavyweight.  But lack of stamina and a weak chin derailed all those aspirations.  The ageless Sakuraba returns in a title fight vs the disappointing Marius Zaromskis who has failed miserably in his latest fights.  Gegard Mousasi appears in a K1 fight against a very good kickboxer in Kyotaro Fujimoto.  One of the highlight fights will definately by Josh “Punk” Thomson vs Tatsuya Kawajiri, very equal fighters and will likely be the fight of the night.

There doesn’t appear to be many close fights at Dream 16 which will be broadcast for free on HDNet in North America.  If you plan to bet on Dream 16 picking the favourites looks like the picks to make.  Do you really want to make a -1500 bet on Gegard Mousasi winning though, is it even worth it?  Maybe a parlay with Mousasi, Hansen, Aoki, Mayhem Miller, Ishida, and Omigawa will end up netting something decent.  Ishii isn’t on the Betus line yet but should be a decent outright pick to beat Minowa man.   The only underdog play I might make here would be to take Aurelio over Aoki.  This is finally a fight that may not favour Aoki as Marcus is just as good in BJJ as Shinya.  With Marcus being strong on his feet, its hard to see how Aoki is a favourite.  Problem is that Aoki always seems to win fights and Aurelio always seems to find a way to lose.  Might be worth a risk.

Dream finally returns after a long layoff and Joachim Hansen is once again in a title fight.

Recent featherweight tourney champ Bibiano Fernandes looked very solid enroute to the championship.  Even though Hansen was a smaller lightweight, going down to featherweight can’t be too easy on the body.  I think Bibiano will have the edge here and beat Joachim.

Josh Barnett on roids is one of the best heavyweights in mma.  Should be a very easy win over Mighty Mo here.

KJ Noons also returns, interesting to see how he does.

Jimmy Arbiz lol, wtf is he doing still fighting.
