UFC on Versus 2 Picks – Jones vs Matyushenko

UFC on Versus 2: Jones vs. Matyushenko

Date: Aug 01, 2010

Location: San Diego, Calif.
Venue: San Diego Sports Arena
Broadcast: Versus

MAIN CARD

  • Jon Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
  • Mark Munoz vs. Yushin Okami
  • Jake Ellenberger vs. John Howard
  • Takanori Gomi vs. Tyson Griffin

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Paul Kelly vs. Jacob Volkmann
  • DaMarques Johnson vs. Matthew Riddle
  • James Irvin vs. Igor Pokrajac
  • Mike Massenzio vs. Brian Stann
  • Darren Elkins vs. Charles Oliveira
  • Rob Kimmons vs. Steve Steinbeiss

Jon Bones Jones is back, and so is free UFC on tv!  UFC on Versus 1 was a huge success and I’d imagine this will be as well.

There is no possible way that I feel Jon “Bones” Jones will ever lose to Vladimir Matyushenko (barring a weird disqualification).  Even if the +400 tempts you, no chance.  Maty is old, Jones and young and just too good.  This is a lock.

In my opinion, one of the most overated fighters ever had to be Takanori Gomi.  Though I enjoy watching his fighting style, I don’t think he was ever that great, and was overjoyed when Diaz “beat” him.  Tyson Griffin has since evolved into a great fighter and should have no trouble simply “outskilling” Gomi.

Here is an upset to take a look at, Mark Munoz definately has a chance to win over Yushin Okami.  Okami still doesn’t try to finish, and Munoz definately has both the wrestling and GnP skills for a decision win here.

Here is another upset possibility, how is John “Doomsday” Howard an underdog here?  This guy is Knockout of the Night potential and he is an underdog vs Ellenberger who still hasn’t proven much in the octagon so far?  Take Doomsday for sure here.

Another upset potential in the preliminaries is Demarques Johnson over Matthew Riddle

UFC 116 Picks

Bet on UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin HERE!

Date: July 3, 2010

Location: Las Vegas
Venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena
Broadcast: Pay-per-view and Spike TV

MAIN CARD

  • Champ Brock Lesnar vs. interim champ Shane Carwin (heavyweight title-unification bout)
  • Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chris Leben
  • Matt Brown vs. Chris Lytle
  • Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
  • Kurt Pellegrino vs. George Sotiropoulos

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

  • Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer
  • Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricardo Romero

PRELIMINARY CARD (Un-aired)

  • Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic
  • Dave Branch vs. Gerald Harris
  • Forrest Petz vs. Daniel Roberts
  • Jon Madsen vs. Karlos Vemola

The July UFC bout in Las Vegas is usually the 2nd biggest card of the year behind the New Year’s bought.  Though it looks to be a pretty decent card, there is no “WOW” big name factor other than the main card, though the main card should be a beauty.  Would also like to apologize for not getting in my strikeforce Fedor vs Werdum picks in, a play on Fabricio would have been very nice!

Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin is a matchup that many mma fanatics have been waiting for.  The 2 biggest fists in mma will battle it out.  I have said all along that I hate picking fighters that have been on the shelf for a long time due to injury, ring rust is huge in mma, and I will follow that advice again in this fight.  The odds should be more even, so taking Carwin here is definately my choice.

Akiyama vs Wanderlai would have been a sweet fight, but vs Leben should be a great fight as well.  Sexyama didn’t look the greatest against Belcher and won a very close fight.  In contrary to the long layoff, can somebody come back after 2 weeks (not an easy fight vs Aaron Simpson)?  I would take Akiyama here.

Matt Brown vs Chris Lytle is a fight that is too hard to bet on.  Both are unpredictable and inconsistent.  At times you see potential top fighter candidate fighters, and at other times you just see brawlers.  May the best man win this fight, but I will go with Matt Brown.

Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski part 2 will hopefully be entertaining as part 1.  Can’t really ever see Bonnar winning another fight, and much like Keith Jardine should be out of the UFC (although Dana White promised to never fire Bonnar).

George Sotiropoulos has looked amazing his last few fights, and his winning ways should continue against a tough opponent in Kurt Pellegrino.

My underdog bet of the night is definitely Chris Tuchscherer over Brandon Schaub though.  Tuchscherer is tough, and should easily KTFO TUF runner-up Schaub.  At +250, do it!

Dumbass of the night will have to go to Kendall Grove, who decided to diss UFC and SpikeTV over the radio and therefore losing his spot in the Spike televised undercard portion.  Feel bad for Relic though.

UFC 114 Picks

UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans

Date: May 29, 2010

Location: Las Vegas
Venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

MAIN CARD

  • Rashad Evans vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
  • Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller
  • Todd Duffee vs. Mike Russow
  • Jason Brilz vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
  • John Hathaway vs. Diego Sanchez

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

  • Dong Hyun Kim vs. Amir Sadollah
  • Efrain Escudero vs. Dan Lauzon

PRELIMINARY CARD (Not televised)

  • Melvin Guillard vs. Waylon Lowe
  • Luiz Cane vs. Cyrille Diabate
  • Joe Brammer vs. Aaron Riley
  • Jesse Forbes vs. Ryan Jensen

One of the most anticipated grudge matches will finally happen tonight at UFC 114, Quentin “Rampage” Jackson vs Rashad “Sugar” Evans, and it should be a good one.

The main event Rampage vs Evans is as close as you can get.  Rashad can try and take him down, hump him to death, except Rampage has great takedown defence.  Rashad can also use a stick and move strategy which may work.  On the other hand Rampage is pure power, and we haven’t seen Rashad take shots very well.  This would be a pure coinflip bet, and would probably take Rampage regardless of his longer layoff.

Bisping vs Miller is another close fight, but I think I will have to go with the Count on this fight.  Bisping has much better striking than Miller and should be able to catch him with a few shots for points and win a decision.

Even though Todd Duffee has considered himself overated, he should be the real deal and will destroy Mike Russow.

Lil Nog vs Brilz, no point in even talking about this fight.  Would have really liked to have seen him vs Forrest.

Don’t really know too much about John Hathaway so I can’t go against Diego, and Escudaro and Sabdollah should win their prelim fights.

UFC 113 Picks

UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun II

Date: May 08, 2010

Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Venue: Bell Centre
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

MAIN CARD

  • Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (for light heavyweight title)
  • Paul Daley vs. Josh Koscheck
  • Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout
  • Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. Matt Mitrione
  • Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Joe Doerksen vs. Tom Lawlor
  • Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
  • T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks
  • Joey Beltran vs. Tim Hague
  • Mike Guymon vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
  • Jason MacDonald vs. John Salter

Can UFC 113 follow in the footsteps of an absolutely amazing WEC PPV event?  Let’s hope so.  BTW be sure to pickup the WEC: Faber vs Aldo on Blu-ray for the first time ever.  Comes out in July.

Since Shogun Rua really won the first matchup, there really should be no reason why he shouldn’t win here.  Especially as an underdog, Shogun should be your pick in defeating Lyoto Machida.

The next matchup is most likely a fight where you shouldn’t bet on.  I’m sure most mma fans are cheering for Semtex Paul Daley to knock Josh Koscheck TFO!  Daley at a +180 underdog is a nice price to do it as well.  But if you watched Daley before his UFC fights, he was terrible against the takedown and terrible on the ground.  Kos will not keep this fight on his feet, therefore Kos is an easy pick.

I never liked picking a fighter after major surjuries, and Patrick Cote is coming off a major one.  Fighters often never have a good record in their first fight back, or their performance is subpar.  When healthy Cote defeats Belcher the majority of times, but this time will be closer than usual.  I’m predicting a lacklusture fight here, with one of them barely winning by decision, I’m not too sure who though.

Sam Stout will be the overwhelming favourite here in odds and as per the fans, but Jeremy Stephens is a stud, and this might be the fight of the night.  I would look for the upset here at +160 for Jeremy Stephens.

Kimbo Slice vs Matt Mitrione lol.  I never though Mitrione was that good, but he could take punishment.  Kimbo Slice isn’t that good, and he can’t take punishment.  Mitrione FTW.

This was also supposed to be the return of David “The Crow” Louiseau at UFC Montreal 113, but unfortunately he will not get his license in time.  Looks like he will be on UFC 114 though.

UFC 112 Picks

UFC 112: Invincible

Date – Apr 10, 2010
Location -  Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

MAIN CARD

* Champ Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia (for middleweight title)
* Champ B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar (for lightweight title)
* Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie
* Rafael dos Anjos vs. Terry Etim
* Kendall Grove vs. Mark Munoz

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Phil Davis vs. Alexander Gustafsson
* John Gunderson vs. Paul Taylor
* Nick Osipczak vs. Rick Story
* Brad Blackburn vs. DaMarques Johnson
* Paul Kelly vs. Matt Veach
* Mostapha Al Turk vs. Jon Madsen

-800 odds for Anderson Silva beating Demian Maia might even be too low!  I don’t think theres much of a fight here, but at least we get to see Anderson fighting again.

BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar, please see above.  Again the talent dispairity is so huge in this fight, Penn should have absolutely no problems beating Edgar.

The next fight between Matt Hughes vs Renzo Gracie has some upset potential, and a nice payout if it happens.

Another good upset potential, this time in the undercard would be Mostapha Al Turk over Jon Madsen.  Pretty sure I picked Al Turk to pull a big upset last time which failed, but in all fairness he did get poked in the eye!

2 other decent upset potentials would be Rafael Dos Anjos and DaMarques Johnson
