UFC 113 Picks

UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun II

Date: May 08, 2010

Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Venue: Bell Centre
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

MAIN CARD

  • Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (for light heavyweight title)
  • Paul Daley vs. Josh Koscheck
  • Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout
  • Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. Matt Mitrione
  • Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Joe Doerksen vs. Tom Lawlor
  • Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
  • T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks
  • Joey Beltran vs. Tim Hague
  • Mike Guymon vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
  • Jason MacDonald vs. John Salter

Can UFC 113 follow in the footsteps of an absolutely amazing WEC PPV event?  Let’s hope so.  BTW be sure to pickup the WEC: Faber vs Aldo on Blu-ray for the first time ever.  Comes out in July.

Since Shogun Rua really won the first matchup, there really should be no reason why he shouldn’t win here.  Especially as an underdog, Shogun should be your pick in defeating Lyoto Machida.

The next matchup is most likely a fight where you shouldn’t bet on.  I’m sure most mma fans are cheering for Semtex Paul Daley to knock Josh Koscheck TFO!  Daley at a +180 underdog is a nice price to do it as well.  But if you watched Daley before his UFC fights, he was terrible against the takedown and terrible on the ground.  Kos will not keep this fight on his feet, therefore Kos is an easy pick.

I never liked picking a fighter after major surjuries, and Patrick Cote is coming off a major one.  Fighters often never have a good record in their first fight back, or their performance is subpar.  When healthy Cote defeats Belcher the majority of times, but this time will be closer than usual.  I’m predicting a lacklusture fight here, with one of them barely winning by decision, I’m not too sure who though.

Sam Stout will be the overwhelming favourite here in odds and as per the fans, but Jeremy Stephens is a stud, and this might be the fight of the night.  I would look for the upset here at +160 for Jeremy Stephens.

Kimbo Slice vs Matt Mitrione lol.  I never though Mitrione was that good, but he could take punishment.  Kimbo Slice isn’t that good, and he can’t take punishment.  Mitrione FTW.

This was also supposed to be the return of David “The Crow” Louiseau at UFC Montreal 113, but unfortunately he will not get his license in time.  Looks like he will be on UFC 114 though.

UFC 112 Picks

UFC 112: Invincible

Date – Apr 10, 2010
Location -  Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

MAIN CARD

* Champ Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia (for middleweight title)
* Champ B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar (for lightweight title)
* Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie
* Rafael dos Anjos vs. Terry Etim
* Kendall Grove vs. Mark Munoz

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Phil Davis vs. Alexander Gustafsson
* John Gunderson vs. Paul Taylor
* Nick Osipczak vs. Rick Story
* Brad Blackburn vs. DaMarques Johnson
* Paul Kelly vs. Matt Veach
* Mostapha Al Turk vs. Jon Madsen

-800 odds for Anderson Silva beating Demian Maia might even be too low!  I don’t think theres much of a fight here, but at least we get to see Anderson fighting again.

BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar, please see above.  Again the talent dispairity is so huge in this fight, Penn should have absolutely no problems beating Edgar.

The next fight between Matt Hughes vs Renzo Gracie has some upset potential, and a nice payout if it happens.

Another good upset potential, this time in the undercard would be Mostapha Al Turk over Jon Madsen.  Pretty sure I picked Al Turk to pull a big upset last time which failed, but in all fairness he did get poked in the eye!

2 other decent upset potentials would be Rafael Dos Anjos and DaMarques Johnson

UFC 111: St Pierre vs Hardy Picks

UFC 111: St-Pierre vs. Hardy

Date: Mar 27, 2010

Location: Newark, N.J.
Venue: Prudential Center
Broadcast: Pay-per-view and Spike TV

MAIN CARD

  • Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy (for welterweight title)
  • Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir (for interim heavyweight title)
  • Jake Ellenberger vs. Ben Saunders
  • Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch
  • Mark Bocek vs. Jim Miller

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

  • Nate Diaz vs. Rory Markham
  • Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Brown

PRELIMINARY CARD (Un-aired)

  • Fabricio Camoes vs. Kurt Pellegrino
  • Jared Hamman vs. Rodney Wallace
  • Tomasz Drwal vs. Rousimar Palhares
  • Matthew Riddle vs. Greg Soto

Finally GSP returns to the octagon ready to do some damage.  Dan Hardy is a good emerging star, but waaay to green to fight George St. Pierre.  The irishman will need all of St. Paddy’s luck to beat GSP.

Mir was an absolute beast in his last fight and Carwin throws boulders at you.  I would take Carwin as the underdog, but note that if the odds were even I might take Mir. This fight will be hard to pick, pretty sure it won’t go the distance though in case you want to bet that way on this fight instead.

I really like Ben Saunders and feel he can eventually be a contender one day if he puts it all together.  Beating Ellinger should help him build his confidence.

Since Jon Fitch is an underdog in this matchup, should be an easier pick.  Is everybody picking Alves just because he’s big?  He’s a good fighter, but so is Fitch.  I bet that Alves won’t even make weight.

Mark Bocek at +300 is well worth the gamble at beating Jim Miller.  I believe Miller is a black belt BJJ holder as well, but no way is it as good as Bocek’s.  Upset alert here.

I’ll take Nate Diaz and Matt Brown to win the aired prelims.

Pelligrino, Pallhares, and Riddle to win their fights

UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs Jones Picks

UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs. Jones

Date: Mar 21, 2010

Location: Broomfield, Colo.
Venue: 1STBANK Center
Broadcast: Versus

MAIN CARD

  • Jon Jones vs. Brandon Vera
  • Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
  • Paul Buentello vs. Cheick Kongo
  • James Irvin vs. Alessio Sakara

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Shannon Gugerty vs. Clay Guida
  • Eliot Marshall vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
  • Darren Elkins vs. Duane “Bang” Ludwig
  • John Howard vs. Daniel Roberts
  • Chase Gormley vs. Brendan Schaub
  • Julio Paulino vs. Mike Pierce
  • Jason Brilz vs. Eric Schafer

UFC makes its debut on Versus this Sunday night with a very nice card.

The main event will feature one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC versus one of the most boring.  The only way Jon Jones loses to Brandon Vera is by disqualification, nuff said, easy pick here.

Junior Dos Santos vs Gabriel Gonzaga will be a great fight.  Gonzaga is tough, but look for Dos Santos to show everybody that he is definately for real here.

Chiek Kongo should beat Paul Buentello fairly easily here

Alessio Sakara vs James Irvin should be a slugfest, though I don’t know which one has more ring rust.  Go with Sakara, has a better chin.

Remember for those in Canada, this Versus event will be airing on Rogers Sportsnet for free as well.

UFC 110 Picks

Want to Bet on UFC 110?

UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez

Date: Feb 21, 2010

Location: Sydney, Australia
Venue: Acer Arena
Broadcast: Pay-per-view (airs Saturday, Feb. 20, in North America)

MAIN CARD

  • Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez
  • Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva
  • George Sotiropoulos vs. Joe Stevenson
  • Ryan Bader vs. Keith Jardine
  • Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Anthony Perosh

PRELIMINARY CARD

  • Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
  • Brian Foster vs. Chris Lytle
  • C.B. Dollaway vs. Goran Reljic
  • Igor Pokrajac vs. James Te Huna

Finally, a UFC card that everybody can’t wait for.  Should be the event of the year so far.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cain Velasquez will be an even of a fight as you can get.  Both these guys are damn good at what they do, and if you want to bet on this fight to go to a decision, go for that as picking a winner for this fight will be tough.  I’m stuck.  I think Cain might win, just cause he has been doing enough to win each and every one of his fights, but Big Nog is tough.  Velasquez will squeak out a decision win, final answer.

I have to go with my heart and say that Wanderlei will beat Bisping.  This is a must win for the axe murderer.  If he loses thats it for him, he can entertain but not win.  He’s got a huge heart, and I think he will use it to win this fight.

George Sotiropoulos with a huge home crowd backing might pull off an upset here over Joe Stevenson.   Joe’s a good fighter, but he’s been off and on, worth a shot as George has looked good in previous fights.

Another off and on is Keith Jardine, look for the surprising favourite Ryan Bader to win here.  He has looked awfully good in his previous fights, while Jardine has not.

Mirko Cro Cop should win here, I wished they gave him a top fighter to put him out of the ufc though.

Doesn’t look like theres any interesting undercard underdog to bet on.  I like the favourites on all the undercard fights.
